A Little Bit About This Range
I have been planning this range for quite some time. At the begining of this year, I started working on a set of placemats and coasters. I chose the colour red (Valentine’s Day was just around the corner) in a double knit wool and started to knit/design. My first attempt did not go quite as planned so I started all over again. The coasters were no trouble and I got them right the first time around. It was just taking them and making them bigger that was a little troublesome. Take 2 was much more a success.ย They were exactly how I wanted them to look. I did, however, find them to be fairly light.
In March, I decided to make a set for my mom (her birthday is in April). This time I chose to use two colours – black and white – still using double knit wool but I knew that having the two together would make it less flimsy. This did take me a few tries to get right – you really gotta factor in that extra wool!
I just could not leave it there! I wanted to create it in a different wool and when I went to look, I came across 3 types I could see this range in – so yes, there will be more styles coming in the near future!
First one up is Hayfield Super Chunky. I ordered two balls, Fox and Dark Grey Mix, from Vibes & Scribes. I was asked to make a set of two placemats and coasters. As overjoyed as I was with the order, it gave me the opportunity to use the wool. The customer was happy for me to use this wool and picked the colour Fox.
The Dark Grey Mix became my tester and I quickly got to work. This time it was the knitting needles that needed changing. I also required at least one more ball of wool (I got 2 just to be safe and a ball in Berry). I got them finished, with a ball and a bit left over. I was turning that ball into a complimentary basket (this is the full set I had in my head when I was planning my product ranges!). Just how? I was not so sure.
I started knitting baskets last year and as each one improved, I was not completely satisfied. The idea in my head was so different and proving difficult to produce. So, using Berry, and a few attempts later, I finally created the basket I wanted and went to knit it in Fox.
Each item is made to order, handmade with love in Ireland, and will last a lifetime.
